Applying a Parameter Group to DB Instances

Scenarios

Changes to certain parameters in a custom parameter group take effect only after you apply this parameter group to a DB instance.

A parameter group can be applied to DB instances of only the same version.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the management console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner and select a region and a project.
  3. Click Service List. Under Database, click Relational Database Service to go to the RDS console.
  4. On the Parameter Group Management page, perform the following operations based on the type of the parameter group to be applied:

    • If you intend to apply a default parameter group to DB instances, click Default Groups, locate the target parameter group, and click Apply in the Operation column.
    • If you intend to apply a custom parameter group to DB instances, click Custom Groups, locate the target parameter group, and choose More > Apply in the Operation column.

A parameter group can be applied to one or more DB instances.

  5. In the displayed dialog box, select or enter one or more DB instances to which the parameter group will be applied and click OK

    NOTE:

For details on the description of parameter group statuses, see Parameter Group Statuses.

After you reset the parameter group, you need to view the status of the DB instance in the DB instance list. If the status is Pending reboot, you must reboot the DB instance for the reset to take effect. Rebooting is always required after resetting parameter groups under the following circumstances:

    • If you have modified certain parameters of primary/standby DB instances, these modifications will be synchronized to the standby DB instance. You must reboot the primary/standby DB instance for the modifications to take effect.
    • If you have modified certain parameters of a read replica, you must reboot the read replica for the modifications to take effect.

After the parameter group is applied successfully, you can locate the target parameter group and click View Application Record on the Default Groups or Custom Groups page.
