Creating a Folder

This section describes how to create a folder using OBS Browser.

Context

There are no files or folders on OBS Browser. For easy data management, OBS simulate virtual folders by adding a slash (/) to the object name on OBS Browser.

Procedure

  1. Log in to OBS Browser.
  2. Click the bucket in which you want to create a folder. Click Create Folder.
  3. In the dialog box that is displayed, enter a folder name and click OK.

    • The name cannot contain the following special characters: \ / : * ? " < > |
    • The name cannot start or end with a period (.)
    • The absolute path of the folder cannot exceed 1023 characters.
    NOTE:

If an access denial message is displayed when you are creating a folder, the possible causes are as follows:

    • The access permission for the bucket is restricted by the bucket ACL. For example, the user has no write permission for the bucket.
    • The access permission for the bucket is restricted by the bucket policy. For example, the bucket does not allow data be written during a certain period of time, the user has no write permission for the bucket, or server-side encryption is not enabled on OBS Browser, which is against the bucket policy.

If a folder fails to be created, check the settings of the bucket ACL and bucket policy, and change the settings as needed.

  4. In the dialog box that is displayed, click OK.
