Creating a Folder

This section describes how to create a folder in OBS Console. Folders facilitate data management in OBS.

  • There are no files and folders on OBS. For easy data management, OBS provides a method to simulate virtual folders by adding a slash (/) to the object name in OBS Console.
  • Folders cannot be downloaded using OBS Console. However, you can batch download files in a folder. Alternatively, you can use OBS Browser to download a folder.

  1. In the bucket list on the OBS Console, click the target bucket to go to the Summary page.
  2. In the navigation tree on the left, click Objects.
  3. Click Create Folder. Alternatively, select the target folder and click Create Folder.
  4. In the Folder Name text box, enter a name for the folder.

    • The name cannot contain the following special characters: \ / : * ? " < > |
    • The name cannot start or end with a period (.)
    • The absolute path of the folder cannot exceed 1023 characters.

If an access denial message is displayed when you are creating a folder, the possible causes are as follows:

    • The access permission for the bucket is restricted by the access control list (ACL). For example, the user has no write permission for the bucket.
    • The access permission for the bucket is restricted by the bucket policy. For example, it is forbidden for users to write data to the bucket during the current period of time, the user has no write permission for the bucket, or server-side encryption is not enabled in OBS Browser, which is against the bucket policy.

Consequently, when the message is displayed, check ACL settings and bucket policy settings to resolve the problem.

  5. Click OK.
