Principle 2: OpenStack Core Complies with API Compatibility and Big Tent Keeps Diversity

  • APIs in OpenStack Core projects are compatible enough to connect to the ecosystem and APIs in Big Tent projects are diverse.
  • The following figure shows the Core Services and Big Tent.

  • The following describes Core Services and Big Tent projects based on practical requirements.

    • OpenStack Core Services provides basic services and has high interoperability. Currently, Core Services is mature and stable to connect to native OpenStack APIs, eco-chain tools, and third-party extended services and applications.
    • OpenStack Big Tent provides extended services to diversify OpenStack features. It can implement one function in multiple ways. The cloud service determines and approves the compatibility of Big Tent projects, and does not commercially promise the compatibility for users. Open Telekom Cloud supports the deployment of Big Tent projects by user themselves.
    • OpenStack Big Tent fundamental projects, such as DNS(Designate), MRS(Sahara), and RTS(Heat), must comply with API principles and have syntax compatibility with APIs. Ensure that APIs in other Big Tent projects or OpenStack projects have call syntax compatibility so that third-party Multi-Cloud tools can be connected and adapted, reducing learning difficulty of Developer.
    • If some projects are shifted from Big Tent to Core, Open Telekom Cloud cloud services support both the Big Tent and Core APIs for such projects.
